European Economic Area (EEA) Council
26.11.2012updated
Location: Council of the European Union (Justus Lipsius building), Brussels

The European Economic Area (EEA) Council meets once a semester. It consists of the EU and of the three members of European Free Trade Association (EFTA) which are also members of the EEA (Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein). They are represented at the Council by the three Ministers for Foreign Affairs under the Presidency (rotating by semester) of one of the three EEA/EFTA countries.

The European Economic Area was created in 1994 by three of the four States of the EFTA (Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland) and the European Community. The EEA Council takes place in two parts: first a political dialogue between EEA/EFTA States then the EEA Council proper which covers current files.
