Mr Vassos Shiarly assumed office as Minister of Finance on 23 March 2012.
At the time of his appointment Mr Shiarly was Chairman of the Cyprus Health Insurance Organisation, a post he was appointed to by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus in November 2011.
Mr Shiarly was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Cyprus Banks for the period 2009-2010. In December 2010 he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus anti-Cancer Society.
In 1985, he joined the Bank of Cyprus Group, and in 1989 was appointed as Senior Manager of the Bank’s Customer Management Services Unit until 1998. During the period 1998-2009 he held the position of Group General Manager and in 2010 he was appointed UO the position of Group Chief General Manager.
He studied accounting and worked for 18 years in various accounting firms in London. His last employment before his return to Cyprus in 1985 was with Coopers & Lybrand, where he held the position of Senior Manager. In 1966 he graduated from high school in London.
Mr Shiarly was born in 1948.
