Press Release - Cyprus Presidency welcomes the adoption of the Brussels I Regulation by the European Parliament
20.11.2012, 15:23 (CET)
The Cyprus Presidency welcomes the adoption of the proposal for a recast of Regulation 44/2011; the so-called ‘Brussels I Regulation’, by the European Parliament,  during its Plenary Session today, Tuesday, November 20.

The ‘Brussels I Regulation’ is the cornerstone of judicial cooperation in civil matters and aims at facilitating cross-border litigation and the recognition and enforcement of judgments throughout the European Union.

This Regulation contributes significantly to the development of the European area of justice by removing the remaining obstacles to the free movement of judicial decisions, in line with the principles of mutual recognition and mutual trust among Member States.

The Cyprus Presidency has completed the negotiations of the outstanding issues at Council level and the European Parliament went on to adopt the proposal today, at first reading.
