Tackling the common problems faced by member states is the main aim of the Cyprus Presidency of the EU, according to the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr Demetris Christofias.
President Christofias made the statement in his closing remarks at the plenary session of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg, where earlier he presented the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. He added that the effort should focus on combining fiscal discipline with economic growth and social cohesion, something that has not been tested in the past.
“The issues put forward by the MEPs today have been noted, there were some very important suggestions and proposals that we will take into serious consideration and, in cooperation with the President of the European Parliament Mr Schulz and the President of the European Commission Mr Barroso, we will try to find solutions that will serve in the best possible way the collective approach towards the common problems”, President Christofias said.
