The official website of the Cyprus EU Presidency, cy2012.eu, is set to be a fast, reliable and transparent information medium for foreign and local media, as well as for the wider public. According to the Cyprus government spokesperson, Mr. Stefanos Stefanou, the website “will constitute the main source of information and a fundamental communications medium concerning issues of the Presidency”. Mr. Stefanou presented the website to local journalists today in a press conference in Lefkosia (Nicosia), to signal its official launch.
With Cyprus assuming the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU this Sunday on July 1, Mr. Stefanou said that the website was designed to reflect the demands of both the political and communications strategy that accompanied the Cyprus Presidency.
“Our guiding principle from the beginning was the efficient, swift and reliable projection of issues that are expected to concern the Cyprus Presidency,” said Mr. Stefanou.
The design of the Cyprus Presidency website follows the basic design of the Danish Presidency, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU. Mr. Stefanou thanked the Danish Presidency for providing the design templates of their website and also the Polish Presidency for their advice.
The government spokesperson praised the good cooperation between the Press and Information Office (PIO), the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency and the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (cyta) for making the website a reality. He also thanked the companies Action Global Communications and Byte for their valuable contributions.
Cyta is the website’s platinum sponsor while its subsidiary company, Emporion Plaza was responsible for the creation and final design of the website. Cyta, who has offered its services for free, will also provide the technical support of the website.
The website will be presented in five languages, English, Greek, Turkish, French and German, after the kind contribution of the German Embassy.
