Integration of immigrants is one of the issues that Cyprus wishes to highlight during the Presidency. Recognising the importance of integration as the cornerstone of a successful EU immigration policy, the Presidency is holding on 20 November 2012 an Expert Conference, focusing on the role of local and regional authorities in shaping and implementing the national integration policies. Recalling the most recent Council conclusions of December 2011 on the European Agenda for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals, local and regional authorities are assigned with a leading role in the implementation of the integration policies and an equally important role providing feedback helping to shape more effective policies. Since local and regional authorities administer a wide range of services and activities, they equally have an advanced role in shaping the interaction between migrants and the receiving society.
This event will be organised with substantial co-financing from the European Commission through the European Integration Fund.
