Annual Privacy Forum
10.10.2012
Location: Lemesos (Limassol)

Privacy is a fundamental need and a basic right. However, often it seems that the utility of electronic communication devices comes with the cost of privacy. The European Commission, addressing this context, proposed in January 2012 a reform of EU’s data protection rules aiming towards strengthen online privacy rights of European citizens. At the same time the research community is investigating a number of solutions of privacy enhancing technologies that demonstrate that citizens and industry can benefit from the advances of electronic communications and online services without compromising citizens privacy. In light of the above, the Unit "Trust and Security" (F5) of the Directorate General Communication Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) (former DG INFSO) and the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) are organizing the Annual Privacy Forum 2012 (APF’2012) www.privacyforum.eu , a two day event with the objective to provide a forum to academia, industry and policy makers in the field. The 2012 first edition will take place at Limassol on the 10th and 11th of October 2012 and will be hosted by the Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus. The main objective of the EC and ENISA is for the Forum to evolve into an annual event that will foster the dialogue between the policy, research and industrial communities, in one phrase ‘closing the loop from research to policy’. of well-known experts in the field of privacy and trust.
