The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, will preside over the EU–Israel Association Council and the Stabilisation and Association Council between the EU and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, on July 24 in Brussels. Dr Marcoullis will preside on behalf of the High Representative of the Union of Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Baroness Catherine Ashton. The Foreign Affairs Minister will also participate in the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) that will take place in Brussels on July 23.

These Association Councils are the first of a number of ministerial level political dialogues that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will be presiding on behalf of the High Representative, something which constitutes standard practice.

Dr. Marcoullis will also participate in the FAC meeting on Monday July 23, which will be presided by Baroness Ashton. Foreign Affairs Ministers are expected to discuss the developments in Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Sudan/South Sudan and Mali/Sahel. Council Conclusions are expected to be adopted on these issues, as well as Zimbabwe, Somalia and the Common Security and Defence Policy.

The FAC agenda also includes the issues of China, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Eastern Partnership.  A discussion on Energy and Foreign Policy will take place during the FAC working lunch.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in the Eastern Partnership Ministerial meeting.
