Mr Loucas Louca assumed office as Minister of Justice and Public Order on 22 December 2008.

On 1 August 2008 he was appointed member of the Board of the Electricity Authority, a position he held until his appointment as Minister of Justice.

In 1998 he was one of the founders of the EPALXI party (Political Platform for the Restructuring of the Centre) and he has been a member of the Political Bureau of the party since 2001.

In the 2006 parliamentary elections he stood as an AKEL (Progressive Party of the Working People)-Left-New Forces candidate for the Famagusta District within the framework of the cooperation of EPALXI with AKEL.

He has been politically active in the democratic progressive side of the political spectrum, and until 1998 he was a member of the Democratic Party Famagusta District Committee.

He has been socially and politically active from a young age and was a member and General Secretary of the Lefkosia Shooting Club. He was also one of the founding members and for many years a board member of the refugee association “Eleftheros Marathovounos”.

Mr Louca graduated from the Law School of the National Kapodestrian University of Athens, Greece, in 1979.

He is a member of the Bar Association of Nicosia and retains his own law office in Nicosia since 1982.

He is a graduate of the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia. He subsequently completed his military service in the National Guard from 1973 until 1975. During the 1974 Turkish invasion he took part in the military operations of the battalion he was serving in, in Kyrenia, where he was wounded at the battle of Ayios Ermolaos.

Mr Louca was born on 28 December 1955 in the village of Marathovounos (Famagusta District), which has been under military occupation by Turkey since 1974.

He is married to Demetra Iacovidou and they have two children.
